Saint-Petersburg and Karelia 8 days in the winter

Saint-Petersburg is visited by thousands of travellers every year. They are attracted by its rich cultural heritage, numerous museums, palaces and imperial residents of yester year. Its proximity to Karelia, 85% of which is covered with wood is also considered to be a main draw. This tour gives you a chance to discover the best Russian museums and enjoy the nature of North. Advantages of this trip are winter activities such as dog sledding, amazing views of the ice-covered Baltic Sea and Neva River and visiting of palaces in the period when there is no big tourist flow.

Day 1

Transfer. Accommodation: homestay with a local, in a hotel or in an apartment.

City tour including the visiting of the local market.

Day 2

St. Petersburg Metro tour, one of the most attractive and deepest metros in the world.

Our guide will introduce you to the Hermitage, one of the largest museums in the world. You will see major masterpieces strolling around the warren of the Winter Palace passages.

Day 3

Tour to the park Of The 300th Anniversary Of St. Petersburg. It is located uptown near the Gulf of Finland. It was opened in honor of St. Petersburg's 300th anniversary in 2003. You will see spectacular views of Kronstadt, a city and military seaport on Kotlin Island.

Day 4

You will go to Pavlovsk, 30 km from St. Petersburg.

Pavlovsk is full of romantic landscapes and Russian summerhouses (datcha). The town developed around the Pavlovsk Palace, a major residence of the Russian imperial family, you will also see the park with numerous temples, colonnades, bridges and statues.

Transfer to the railway station. Saint-Petersburg – Petrozavodsk. Night train. (Compartment for 4, second class).

Day 5

Arrival in Petrozavodsk, the capital of Karelia. Moving to the village, where the center of dog sledding is (90km by car). Excursion to the “village of forest Sami”, reconstructed according to the archeological excavations. Then you will meet husky dogs. Before the meeting with dogs, we will give you some safety instructions to drive the dog sledge and after that we will start our route: 2 people on a sledge in turn. The length of the route is 25km. After dinner you can enjoy a bath with an ice-hole on the bank of the lake.

Day 6

Transfer to the start point. Safety instructions, driving basis, training and personal equipment will be available. Snowmobile safari. We will pass through the Karelian taiga. The track goes along the fascinating natural landscapes, sleeping under the snow blanket. The trip is 60km. After dinner, we offer an additional winter fishing (20 euro per person). We go to the fishing spot by snowmobile (3km from the village). You will be offered a dinner, made of local products. Free evening.

Day 7

Trip to the island in 2km away from the village. Forest walking and in the park, tasting of mulled wine with fried bread at the fire (2 hours).

In addition: cross-country skiing or skating on the frozen lake (10 euro per person, unlimited time).

Transfer and night train from Petrozavodsk to St.-Petersburg (compartment for 4, second class).

Day 8

Arrival in Saint-Petersburg. Free time. Transfer to the airport.
