The Tretyakov Gallery tour
The Tretyakov Gallery is located in one of the oldest Moscow districts, Yakimanka. The Tretyakov Gallery is one of the largest museums in the world. Its collection includes more than 180000 pieces of Russian art. The museum is based on the private collection of merchant and patron of the arts, Pavel Tretyakov. In the end of the 19th century, he donated his private collection which was located in his own house to Moscow city. The collection grew fast and the building had to be redesigned. The museums architecture itself is worth seeing. The whole collection is divided into two parts, that being ‘pieces of art of 18th-19th century’ and ‘20th century pieces of art’, including works of Russian artists.
