Combined Uzbekistan - St. Petersburg tour for 13 days, 10 nights

This unique route will allow you to explore two greatly different destinations in one tour. During this trip to Uzbekistan you will get a chance to discover the famous city oasis of the Great Silk Road with their mosques embellished with myriad of turquoise mosaics. In juxtaposition to that, a visit to St. Petersburg, the Russian cultural capital, will immerse you in the grandeur of the Russian Empire of tsarist times. Treat yourself to this exceptional and vivid journey.

Day 1
Flight to St. Petersburg

Flight from Paris to Saint-Petersburg

Pickup, transfer and accommodation at your choice (local resident's place or hotel).

Day 2
First acquaintance with Saint-Petersburg

Sightseeing tour of St. Petersburg, also known as the Venice of the North.

  • Nevsky prospect, the most famous 'artery' of the city.
  • Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood and Kazan Cathedral with its columns in neoclassical style.
  • The Palace Square
  • Smolny Cathedral, a Baroque masterpiece of the Italian architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli.
  • The Admiralty building and the University Quarter.
  • The Peter and Paul Fortress and Peter and Paul Cathedral with the tomb of the Romanov family.

Day 3
The Hermitage

Visit to the State Hermitage Museum, one of the three largest museums in the world, along with the British Museum in London and the Louvre in Paris. In approx. 1000 halls tens of thousands of works are exhibited here.

Day 4
Palaces and Royal residences of Russia

From May to mid-October:

  • Departure to Peterhof to visit the Lower Park with its numerous fountains, the most famous of which are the Samson Fountain and the Grand Cascade.

From late October to April:

  • Trip to Pushkin, including visit to the luxurious Catherine Palace with its amber room and French and English gardens with numerous pavilions.
  • Night at a hotel in Saint-Petersburg.
Day 5
Departure to Samarkand

Morning transfer to the airport and departure to Samarkand via direct flight of Uzbekistan Airways (every Thursday).

Arrival at the airport of Samarkand in the evening.

Transfer and check-in at a hotel.

Day 6
Magnificent Samarkand

A full-day tour of the city of Samarkand:

  • The famous Registan Square with three madrasahs and the Golden Mosque.
  • The Mausoleum of Tamerlane.
  • The Bibi-Khanym Mosque.
  • A walk through picturesque Siyob Bazaar.
  • The pearl of Samarkand architecture - the Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis
  • The remains of the Ulugh Beg Observatory and the archaeological museum in Afrosiyob

Day 7
Shakhrisabz, hometown of Tamerlane

Departure to Shakhrisabz through Takhta-Karacha Pass (1700m). Arrival and sightseeing tour to:

  • The magnificent ruins of the White Palace, also known as Aqsaray
  • Kok-Gumbaz Mosque ('Blue Dome')
  • The mausoleum of Shamsiddin Kulala, a sufi and a spiritual master, the father of Tamerlane.
  • Tamerlane's Tomb and the grave of his eldest and beloved son Timur.
  • Return to Samarkand

Day 8
From Samarkand to Bukhara via Uzbek high-speed train

Free day, you can explore the city of Samarkand on your own or do some shopping.

Transfer to Samarkand railway station, boarding the Express train and departure to Bukhara (dep. 21:10/ar. 22:40).

Arrival in Bukhara, transfer and hotel check-in.

Day 9
Mosques, madrasahs, caravanserais

A full-day tour of the ancient city of Bukhara:

  • Poi Kalan Sqaure with its Kalyan minaret of XI century.
  • The Trading Domes
  • The Tim Abdulla Khan covered bazaar
  • The Magok-i-Attari Mosque, the ancient Zoroastrian temple
  • The Lyab-i Hauz (in translation: by the pond) Architectural Ensemble
  • The Samonid Mausoleum and Ismail's Tomb
  • The Bolo Khauz Mosque
  • The Ark Citadel, the former fortified residence of the emirs.
  • The Chor Minor Madrasah

Free day

Free day, you can explore the surroundings of Bukhara on your own or do some shopping.

Day 11
Red Sands of Kyzylkum Desert

A road to Khiva (6-7 hours) through the Kyzylkum Desert.

Arrival, transfer, hotel check-in.

Day 12
Khiva, the city of One Thousand and One Nights

A full-day tour to the city of Itchan Kala:

  • Mohammed Amin Khan Madrasah and the unfinished minaret
  • The Kunya-Ark Fortress
  • The Tach Khaouli Palace and the Harem
  • The Madrasah and caravanserai of Alla Kuli Khan
  • The Juma Mosque with 218 columns carved from wood
  • The Islam Khodja Madrasah and the Mausoleum of Pahlavan Mahmud
  • The Said Alauddin Mausoleum
  • Visit to the wood carving workshop where you can discover this local craft

Departure

Early morning transfer to Urgench Airport.

Flight to St. Petersburg by Uzbekistan Airways direct flight.

Arrival at the Pulkovo Airport and change of the terminal

Flight home.
